Kindle Fire coming here in January

Reports from Know Your Mobile suggest that the Amazon’s Kindle Fire could be making its way to our side of the pond in January!

The Kindle Fire has so far been a luxury enjoyed only by those of us who are lucky enough to live in the US. The stripped-down Android tablet delivers an affordable slab that gives Apple’s iPad a reason to worry!

Amazon has already had huge success with its E-Ink enabled range of Kindle ebook readers. Many would say that the success is due to the ability to read in direct sunlight and download new titles directly to the device which are very appealing qualities but we reckon the best thing about the Kindle’s is their low price with the cheapest in sale here for less than €105 (£89).

The 7-Inch Kindle Fire sells in the US for $200 which is equal to about €150 and if Amazon were to launch it here for that price, there’s no doubt about it, it will do very well but it won’t be without problems, or limitations as it were. The Fire runs a lightweight version of Android that’s aimed to make use of Amazon’s video and music services, both of which aren’t available here. The Fire would probably sell even if released without those features but it would be far less successful than the US version.

Either way, we’re looking forward to this potential spanner being launched into Apple’s works. It’s nice to imagine that the price of the iPad will drop to match the potentially changing market. Only time will tell.
